What you need to know For a Successful Newborn photography

As a newborn photographer, I prefer letting parents know what they should expect during newborn photography. To have a family picture with a newborn, it requires a lot of attention because of how tender a newborn is. It is so beautiful to take photographs of your newborn, but it can be quite a challenge, especially when they are a few days old. With my experience as a photographer, I decided to put together a few tips that would be of help to ensure that you have everything ready for your newborn successful photo shoot session.

1. The Right Environment

I have come to realize that to have the best of the best pictures, the environment needs to be perfect. And by perfect I mean the lighting, the scene, the warmth and everything else in between. So, to have the best photo shoot for your newborn, I would require that the space you provide has good natural lighting. You also do not need to worry if your house is a mess; I may probably be moving some furniture about just in case more space is required.

2. Getting your Newborn Ready for the Session

I do a newborn photo shoot session in the client’s house, so you need to get your newborn ready before I get there. In getting your newborn ready, you need to feed the baby right before the session. This way the baby would be fast asleep during the session. The truth is that the best shots are taken when your baby is in a deep sleep. To achieve this, I always encourage parents to be sure their baby is nice and exhausted. You should also prepare some milk or formula if you prefer to keep your baby asleep throughout the session. You can even get a pacifier ready, that is if you make use of one.

3. Clothing your older siblings and everyone that would be in the family pictures.

Just before the photo shoot starts, you need to prepare everyone into the right apparel you desire. It all depends on how you want the picture. If you want a family portrait with a black backdrop; go for clothes with colors that would make your baby stand out (black or grey clothes are perfect). On the other hand, if you prefer a more environmental family portrait with beige, light brown or white backdrops, then go for clothes with colors that would complement the environment (white or beige t-shirts or shirts look nice on the family pictures with this backdrops).
